"Ugh..." The pit is deep, dark, filthy. The bruise on his head stung with a force of hammers. Just how the hell he got pushed into the stupid pit was beyond him. The pit wasn't deep. It wouldn't take too much effort to climb out. Having hit his head, however, Deer had trouble with his coordination and balance.
"Guh..."
Deer hoisted himself from the nasty crater. His sense of direction lost with the pain from his head. How was he supposed to find his way back to civilization?
The answer was beyond him.
Unable to figure out what to do, Deer decided to keep going.
Pick a direction and go. That's what he did. What else could he do? Well, whatever survival tactic was available, it did not come into mind.
It wasn't very long until the sunset turned into a black night. From his pocket, a flashlight was flicked on by his hand. The trees waved with the wind. Nothing was anymore odd nor anymore frightening, but the chill of the night crept up on his skin, which was now sprinkled with goosebumps.
The forest is a dangerous place at night. Let's think for a moment here. What do we find in forests? Trees, leaves, grass! We also find owls and nasty little insects that just want to kiss your face all the time! Sometimes you'll come across something with claws and teeth ranging from three feet to about seven hundred pounds. The oddity of this forest, however, was just about to be realized.
This forest really is no different than other forests. However,
it wasn't until recently when a pack of wolves in this particular forest suddenly became ... odd. The explanation is unknown, but many rumors circle about. Some say these wolves came in contact with hazardous wastes from nearby nuclear plants (the nearest being a few thousand kilometers away). Others say that a couple hunters fell into a mysterious vortex within the trees with the wolves and became some sort of human-wolf hybrid. Deer was about to learn that these rumors were all untrue, and the facts would soon unfold themselves to him.
A lengthy growl resounded from the leaves ahead. Deer stopped in his tracks. The mere sound of an unknown animal had him transfixed. The tone of a beast and the sneer of a man mixed together fell into his ears.
What would he do if he had to confront this terrible animal? He picked up a stick from the ground. Deer knew that this would do no good, but a weapon in his hands made him feel more secure somehow. His flashlight waves in the direction of the darkness ahead.
The gloomy shadows slowly recede from the figure as it approaches.

The growling one slowly grew from the crouch to reveal a burly build below tattered clothing. Broad shoulders flew into a decrescendo towards the small wrists that made way to the elongated fingers on the wide palms. What stood before Deer now was the daunting figure of a boxer, a man whose strength was disabled by weakened wrists.
Deer stepped back. The sock on small ankles moved forwards. A hand extended.
"Friend," the figure said bluntly.
Deer raised an eyebrow in question.
"Friend," the figure repeated.
Deer took it to himself that he must have fell upon some sort of camp of people, as more of these builds of men and women stepped from the night into his vision.
Deer shook the hand.
"Where am I, sir?" he asks with the fear absent from his voice.
The fear, however, was soon to return. The burly shadow of a man continued to hold his grip on his hand. His fingers curled around Deer's wrist tighter and tighter. Deer felt his fingers go numb, then the rest of the hand. The figure pulled him closer as the others began to slowly approach.
His wrist popped. Then it broke. Deer was without the strength to scream as fear tore at his conscience. Looking up, Deer saw the glowing reflection of light from the eyes of the man, burly chest heaving, a grinning mouth revealing a splendid row of knives behind lips.
Finally, the hand itself was ripped off from Deer's arm. Despite its size, the small hand of the odd figure had an impossible strength that was too much for Deer's frail body.
Growling in frustration, the man threw another hand towards Deer, but Deer had already gotten a running pace. In spite of all that pain, adrenaline had a hold on Deer's mind and caused him to run, run, run.
In the slightest corner of his brain, he thought about the rumors. None of them were true after all. These things were not combinations of wolves and men, nor did they become mutated by waste. They were wolves. They used to be wolves.
That last thought clung to him as the pack of things that used to be wolves sprinted towards him.
His last look behind him were the white sharp terrors behind each of their mouths.

Honestly, I had different expectations on the outcome. I ended up writing a horror where I wanted to write about a green magical screwdriver.
Deer's in a crappy situation. Somehow a green magical screwdriver is going to be incorporated in the series. So yes, there will be conclusion, sort of.
The ends are pretty loose and nothing's tied together well, but that's you get when an over-caffeinated thunderstorm is telling you stories at our table.
